Jussi LyonsKiller whales up close. Last weekend I went up to the San Juan islands in search of whales. I hopped on a boat in Anacortes and sailed south for a few hours. Somewhere in the Puget Sound near Port Townsend we found three…. pods of killer whales. Finding the whales is not an exact science but the different tour companies and locals stay in radio contact with each other and seem to find them without taking too much time. It was amazing to watch and listen to them for over an hour as they hunted and made two kills. Between eating they put on quit a display in the late afternoon sun. With some challenging lighting conditions and fast action I was able to capture these images. If you are in the area I recommend Island Adventures.
